REISE S. M. S. “HERTHA” NACH OST-ASIEN UND DEN SUDSEE-INSELN
J.F. Stiehm, a German stereo publisher, offered in 1877 in Berlin a Marine series with 357 numbered views in cabinet and
stereoscopic format, including seven on the Philippines. The photos were made
by Gustav Riemer, the paymaster on the HMS Hertha (a German Corvette) which
made a journey to Eastern Asia and the Islands of the South
Sea (Tonga Islands)
under the leadership of Commandant Capitain z. See Knorr from 1st October 1874
to 27th July 1877.

(actually Sophus Vilhelm Schou) was a famous German photographer of the
nineteenth century.
